The Laundry Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and operational efficiency of the ship’s laundry systems, ensuring the delivery of high-quality laundry services. The technician maintains all laundry equipment, including tunnel washers, washer/extractors, ironers, and related machinery, to ensure optimal performance and compliance with safety and sanitation standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair all laundry equipment, including Jensen and Milnor tunnel washers, Jensen and Milnor washer/extractors, Jensen and Chicago ironers, and associated systems.
Follow manufacturer training and guidelines for all equipment to ensure safety and efficiency.
Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance to minimize downtime and extend equipment lifespan.
Respond promptly to operational issues and coordinate repairs with vendors or external technicians if needed.
Assist in ensuring laundry operations meet the highest standards of quality, sanitation, and efficiency.
Support the laundry team in daily operations and troubleshooting to ensure seamless service delivery.
Adhere to all safety procedures and protocols, including proper use of PPE.
Immediately report safety hazards or equipment malfunctions to the supervisor.
Stay updated on manufacturer training and best practices related to laundry equipment.
Support the training of other team members on equipment operation and maintenance when required.
Perform any other related duties as assigned by management or supervisor to support overall ship operations.
All duties and responsibilities are to be performed in accordance with ISM/ISO, SQM standards, USPH guidelines, environmental, and safety policies. Employees may be required to perform functions across various service areas and departments onboard.
Work Experience & Skills:
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in repairing and maintaining commercial laundry systems.
Experience with these brands is preferred but not essential, MILNOR, JENSEN, BOWE PASSAT, CISSELL, tunnel washers with automatic drying systems, or MIELE and Speed Queen models.
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
Manufacturer training in these systems is preferred.
Language Requirements:
Good knowledge of the English language, both spoken and written, is required for effective communication and understanding of procedures.
Physical Requirements:
Regularly required to stand, walk, handle objects, reach, talk, and hear.
Occasionally or frequently lift and move up to 50 pounds.
