Engine Ratings

TheRepairman perform general repairs and maintenance across shipboard systems andstructures. The Repairman supports multiple trades (mechanical, electrical,plumbing, carpentry, and fittings) to ensure safe, reliable, and aestheticallypleasing vessel operations for guests and crew.

KeyResponsibilities:

  • Read and interpret work orders, drawings, plans, blueprints, and manufacturer manuals for various repair projects.
  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, plumbing, piping, and carpentry faults on shipboard systems and equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance and emergency repairs on equipment such as pumps, valves, seals, fittings, lighting, fixtures, doors, hinges, and basic metalwork.
  • Fabricate or modify components as needed; cut, drill, rivet, bolt, weld (MIG/TIG if certified), seal, and install replacements or upgrades.
  • Restore or upgrade deck, galley, cabin, and public area fixtures and fittings to maintain guest comfort and safety.
  • Assist in the installation or modification of equipment and systems; coordinate with other trades to ensure proper integration.
  • Adhere to safety, environmental, and quality standards; use PPE and follow shipboard safety procedures; participate in drills as required.
  • Assist in dry-dock projects and major refurbishments, support other trades during complex restorations or upgrades.
  • Provide professional guests and crew support for repair-related concerns; respond promptly and courteously to inquiries.

Qualifications& Training:

·       Minimum2-4 years of experience and knowledge in welding repair, mechanical fitting,electrical, plumbing, carpentry, or equivalent.

·       Validwelding certificate from a recognized authority; ability to perform shipboardwelding tasks.

·       Practicalexperience with multi-trade repairs and use of common hand and power tools;basic welding may be advantageous.

·       Basicknowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing systems, and fittings;understanding of corrosion prevention in a marine environment.

·       Additionalcertifications in rigging, working at heights, confined space entry, welding(MIG/TIG), or related deck/maintenance certifications.

Language Requirements 

  • Ability to read and write in English to understand and interpret written work orders and safety procedures. 
  • Ability to communicate clearly with supervisors and crew; effective interpersonal skills.

Physical & Environmental Requirements 

  • Physical: Regularly perform manual labor; able to stand, walk, and use hands to manipulate tools; capable of lifting to 50 pounds. 
  • Vision: Adequate vision to read gauges, manuals, and work orders; depth perception for precise tasks. 
  • Environmental: Work on board a vessel in various weather and sea conditions; exposure to noise, heat, and moving equipment; must wear appropriate PPE and be prepared for shift work or on-call needs; able to operate in confined spaces and at heights as required. Full use of arms, legs, vision, hearing, and communication abilities is expected to perform duties effectively.
